SickPost: I'm Sorry, I've Been Very Ill For A Long Time... But Here's Some Glitter! :D

Yeah, so, I've been very sick  Again.  I've mentioned getting sick before, and it happens to me on a regular basis, and it has for a very long time, and I'm not going to bore you with details...  But this is why this post is going to suck.  It's going to suck a lot.  I'm just warning you in advance....

Okay, fine, I'm gonna bore you with a teeny bit of detail.  Without giving you more information than you want to know, what happens when I get sick is I'm basically in a lot of pain and I need to be administered medicines.  Various amounts of various medicines.  Sometimes repeatedly, until I can sleep.  And sometimes the effects of these medicines last WAY beyond the amount of time I want them to.  I go to sleep and wake up and still feel loopy as hell.  Which is what's happening here.

So, I think to myself, what better time than NOW to do a blog post?!  xp

I'm aware you're probably judging me right now.  That's okay.  I accept your disapproving grimaces of pity.  It's just, for some reason, even when I'm sick or careening around the room on medication or half-awake and barely able to creak open an eyelid, I always want to take out my pretties and look at them, play with them, swatch them...  It's a strange complusion, I know, but it gives me peace of mind, and cheers me up after two long days of being sick and in pain.

So, I took some photos, and.....

Oh balls.  I just realized there's frigging snow on the ground outside my house.  Like, enough that it's actually stuck to the streets a bit.  When the eff did it snow?!? Buggerbuggerbugger.....

Anyway, I took some photos a few minutes ago.  I'm not well enough to actually get out of bed, and it's dark out anyway, so these photos are Lextard-style today!  Well, sort of.  Like, her style except for I'm only using one finger, because  - hey, guess what- I discovered the magical formula for making any nail polish - and I mean any - peel or pop off one one solid sheet!  Yay!  So half my glitter skittles popped off, and I was just glad I had one left of each colour to take a pic of.  These were going to be some glorious, sparkly glitter skittles pics, but in the end I was grateful for one-nail pics  :p 

In case anyone wants to know - to make your polish pop off in one big sheet, use one coat Witchcraft Protein Nail Hardener, one coat American Classics Yellow Stopper (sold at Sally's, by the same people who make Gelous), however many coats of polish (multiple thick coats of glitters recommended), and one thick coat of Seche Vite.  Wait to dry.  Wash your hands with warm water.  Voila  :(  I don't know if its any one of these products, but the combination of them all together never fails  :(

Anyway...

This is Sid, keeping me company and being nosy.... and the ice-pak that was also keeping me company :(  As you can see, he's going "What happened to your pinky and middle fingers...?"  "Oh, you used that combo again?  What are you, a noob?"

So here they are.  These swatches really suck, and I'm sorry for subjecting you to this, but I really want to post something and I don't feel like editing any of my other photsos right now:

This is Nicole by OPI Glitz And Glisten.  It's a medium purple-based pink dense microglitter.  From what I've seen online of this shade, it was apparently released as part of the Nicole Target holiday exclusives?  Then why was I able to buy it in a 2-pack at Shopper's Drug Mart with some other purple shade (whose name I forgot already... but I think was also part of the Target LE's)?  And why did they only give Canada these two colours, and not Pitch-Black Glimmer, or Fell From The Tree, or that blue glitter.... bitchbitchbitch.  Anyway, I did like this one.  Kind of like a microglitter version of Zoya Nova. 

This is one of my recent Asian dollar store finds!  Sorry about the chips.  It's an aqua jelly base with silver, aqua and holo microglitter.  This was actually a striping polish that I decanted into a plain bottle - I need to go back and get another one, because the stiper polish only half-filled the empty bottle, and it's a pain to get the polish out....plus, it was only $2 :)  And it's pretty.  Reminds me a little bit of Atlantis, although they are not the same at all.

This is Icing Party Hardy... not to be confused with the kickass China Glaze of the same name.  God, this pic sucks.  I'm sorry.  This is a dense raspberry microglitter, the micro-equivalent of Zoya Astra.  Very shiny and sparkly.  I actually liked the colour of this one better than Nicole Glitz and Glisten - it's less purple, redder, more vibrant.  And it seemed to dry shinier after applying topcoat than the Nicole.  Icing has some great polishes, and this is one of three I've picked up lately - the other two being a holo glitter and a blue/purple glitter, which I'll show you in a second...

This is the worst picture in the entire world of Finger Paints Easel-y Entertained.... which is a beautiful blurple/cobalt microglitter that I'm defacing with this horrible pic....  I'm not sure why I put it up, and I'm not going to go into any more detail, other than you should get this if you don't own it already.  Wow, how much of a fail is this post....? Anyway, almost done...

And this is Icing Bedazzled, the other new Icing I've gotten lately.  Really pretty, dense blue and purple microglitter.  Dense enough to be worn alone.  I'd been itching to wear it over black, but I tried it over a dark blurple and it kind of completely covered up the base.  I know you probably think you've seen a billion blue & purple glitter polishes by now, but this one is so much finer and denser than any other that I've seen.  Check it out, next time you're near an Icing.  This place consistantly churns out great polishes.

And I consistantly churn out awkward, stumbly, subpar, thrown-together blog entries  :S  I promise I have more for you guys.  I have a Cherry Culture order waiting for me at the PO tomorrow! :D :D :D  and I am expecting a SWEET package with my RBL sale orders and some other goodies in it!! :D :D :D  So I'm super-excited for that!  Plus I have a billion NOTDs, some of which I really like, and my post about dollar store finds....  I'mma post it all soon.  Seriously.   Thanks for reading my over-medicated ramblings  :p

Some More Swatches, Part 2

Hello.  I'm back.  I said I'd keep posting, and I still have more backlogged NsOTD to show you, so here's the rest of the more recent ones.

These don't really have a theme...

First, this is GOSH Gasoline....

It took a few coats to be opaque - it was quite sheer.  The finish kind of reminds me of a purple version of the new SH HD polishes... very sparkly and with a strong blue flash.

It was pretty on it's own, but I wanted to try out my new Chanel Illusion D'Or:

I thought this combo wasn't bad.  I wanted the blue glitter flakes in the ID'O to pick up more in the polish, and I thought the blue flash would help, but the Chanel glitter is so dense it kind of blocked out the effect.

I should have used Purple Heart under it, in retrospect.... I will try that soon.  And I need to try it over black!

Next, this is some konadery:

This is Fingerpaints Easel Come, Easel Go stamped with SH Insta-Dri Blazing Blue and a BundleMonster plate ( I can't recall which ATM... the one with the diagonal stripes).  ECEG is probably my favorite silver that I own - so shiny and foil-like. 

I quite liked the way this looked.  The BM plates are so narrow, though - I don't even have very wide nails, and I found it quite difficult to get the pattern evenly covering the nail.  Which is why I attempted to freehand some of the edges with the SH polish.  I apologize - I knew it'd probably look horrible in pics, but no one would notice in IRL...

See?  You can't really tell.  I got tons of compliments on this.

Yeah, I liked it.

Anyway, here's a crappy indoor pic of Del Sol Ruby Slippers:

I know, I suck so bad for not getting a pic of it in the sunlight.  This was the day my camera died.  It was so bright and sunny and hot that day, I decided to try this and WOW! These are so awesome! It turned to a deep, glittery fuschia pink in direct sunlight,  in the shade it was a lighter sparkly pink, and indoors here, it was a silvery white glitter.  It was gorgeous!  And I loved watching it change colour if I held my hand out.  I wish I had more of these polishes, but my drugstore has such a limited range of colours (only five!) and they're $11 each!  They have a blue and a deep pink one that sort of catch my eye, but I dunno... I can actually see why these are worth the price, though (unlike, say, $OPI) - they're so so so cool!  Once again, I know I sound like a moron because I didn't get a pic of the coolness... sigh...

ILLAMASQUA RAMPAGE!!! glaaaaaaaahrrrrrrrr........ (<----- that's the sound of drooling).

Dark forest green jelly.  An opaque jelly, if that's possible.  It goes without saying this is bloody effing spectacular.  I'm so impressed by it.  If all Illamasquas apply like this, I want all Illamasquas.  So perfect, smooth and glossy and easy to build.

This is two coats without topcoat, because I was planning....

... to top it with Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure!!!  :D :D (*even more drool*).

God I love HT!  I plan to use it over every polish I wear until I absolutely can't stand looking at it anymore! :D  Which will be a while.  I'll only post it if it looks cool/unique.

I don't think I've ever seen this particular combo before, and it was suggested to me when I was on the Nail Board bragging about my new pretties, so I took their sage advice :)

Went To Sadly's: Their Sale + Me Getting Paid = Bad

Yeah.  I'm so horrible.  All that stuff I posted the other day, making it look like I do nothing 24/7 except buy polish - and now, I go and go to Sally's, where they're having a sale, and forget it.  Gone.  My sense of reason, that is  :p

Oh, I got China Glaze.  I got Orly.  I got Nina Ultra Pro, Finger Paints and Sally Girl minis.  And the sad thing is, what I went in there for in the first place (Orly Sweet and China Glaze Up & Away - I still need Grape Pop) wasn't even in stock.  I could very well have turned around and walked out of the store - what I went for wasn't there.  But did I?  Oh no - Sally's is so far away from me, and I haven't been there in so long, so since I drove all this way and I'm already here, I might as well have a bit of a look, and hello what's this ohmygod they're having a sale?!  

So after I drop I'mnotevengoingtotellyouhowmuch, instead of walking to my car and going immediately home, then what does my stupid arse do?  I notice they have a Dollar Giant across the parking lot!  So I duck in, and find all these weird-brand-but-interesting-looking polishes for THREE for a buck!  So of course I stock up there and get every colour I find even remotely interesting, and then a couple more for swap extras, and THEN what do I do??!?  I walk across the parking lot again and go into freaking Walmart!  Again!!  For like the second time in a week!  Why, you ask?  On the off-chance they might have that Nicole I wanted, because my local Walmart doesn't!  :p  So when I do find it, what do I do?  I proceed to buy not just that one, but four different Nicoles.  Four.

So yeah.  Now I have about fifty billion new polishes.  And you wanna hear the part that's really funny?  I'm just about to pull the trigger on a massive Transdesign order, which includes the new ChG Poolside collection, the Orly Sweet collection, the ones from the CC Wild At Heart collection that I want, a couple d/c'ed OPIs, and a bunch of Misas... and possibly the ChG Bahama Blues collection - I haven't decided yet.  I'm trying to find the willpower to wait until tomorrow after I get back from the States.

Yeah.  I have a problem :p.  Seriously.  Literally almost all of my disposable income is going towards feeding my voracious polish appetite.  How many of you out there are like me, when it comes to this stuff?  What's your vice?  Alcohol?  Drugs?  Gourmet grocery items?  Shoes?  Critereon DVDs?  Action figures?  Video games?  Comic books?  Necklaces?  All beauty products?  Lipglosses?  Soap?    <---- these are all real-life addictions and collections of various friends of mine.  I know a people who have hundreds of each one of these things (okay, well, not drugs :p), and a lot of these things are a lot more expensive to collect than nail polish.  Sure, there are a few polishes out there, various shades of unicorn piss that command hundreds of dollars on evilbay, but I'm not going to be shelling out for them anytime soon.  I don't even want to pay $30 for Creme De Menthe (I think... :p)  I think my vice is relatively harmless compared to a lot of others out there.

Okay, I think I'm done justifying my stupefying spending habits to myself  :p  Let's see some haulage!

First, the boring stuff:

Orly Bonder base coat and some kind anti-yellowing top coat.  Not sure what brand it is.  I've been wanting to try Bonder - I've heard good things about it on the NB, and I'm forever searching for an HG base coat.

Second most boring: the Nicoles I got.  They are pretty, though.  L-R: Sky's The Limit, Di-Vine Is Divine, Diva Into The Pool, and Let's Get Star-ted.  LGS is the one I was looking for.  Still haven't found Fresh-Squeezed yet, though.  STL and DITP have glass-flecked shimmer, and D-VID is a purpleish magenta with gold shimmer.  I hate Nicoles - how many times do I have to say that - but they keep coming up with such awesome colours... and I've never had a complaint about the formula.  What stupid names, though.

Onto the good stuff from Sally's.

Orlys!  A lot of them!  L-R: Charged Up (blue-purple creme), Passion Fruit (bright neon fuchsia creme), Goth (black with silver glitter), Red Carpet (red with red and silver glitter, wonder how it compares to the SH Xtreme Wear of the same name), Star Of Bombay (dark blackened navy with purple shimmer), Fifty-Four (pink, gold and red iridescent shimmer), Love Each Other (blue, pink and purple iridescent shimmer), Flagstone Rush (bronze shimmer), Glitz (gold shimmer) and Ruby Passion (red glass-flecked shimmer).  Yay!  Growin' mah Orlyyyy collection.....!

The always-popular (with me), always-irresistable China Glaze.  L-R: Solar Power (yellow shimmer), Up All Night (dark blue shimmer), Grape Juice (glass-flecked light purple) and Black Diamond (black shimmer).  With Solar Power, I own almost all of the Ecollection except Hybrid, and Grape Juice adds to my Summer Days collection (still need Raspberry Festival, Cherry Pie and Orange Marmalade... Hmm, might order them from TD).

Savvys in the bottle that's being discontinued.  I like this old bottle, though - so nice and square.  This is Deep Amethyst (which I wanted after seeing it in this post, like so many other polishes :p) and Red Caviar (burgundy with gold shimmer).  I now own four Savvys.  Every time I read this name I hear Captain Jack Sparrow's voice in my head.  "Savvy?"

Finger Paints!  L-R: It's An Original, Aritstic Azure, Magenta Mood and Be A Pal-ette.  I saw they had a new Finger Paints blue collection in stock, unlike every other new collection, but I read on the NB that they're painfully, disappointingly sheer.  So I passed on all but Artistic Azure, which is just a re-release anyway.

Nina Ultra Pro polishes.  I initially got a couple of this brand just to give to my sister (her name is Nina), but I ended up really liking them.  L-R: Molten Gold (beigey-gold shimmer), Molten Ruby (kind of a coppery red-gold duochrome - so cool), Last Call (mauvey purple with gold shimmer), Purple Pizzazz (blue-purple with pink shimmer), and Purple X-ing (purple jelly with holo glitter).

Then I noticed a new summer Nina collection that they had put out in place of the U&A collection:

They all have fruity names!  And they look juicy and fruity and shimmery and delicious.  A lot of them are glass-flecked.  L-R: Pomegranate, Star Fruit, Soursop (uh, what? this is blue...), Tutti Fruitti (okay, that's not a fruit), Dragon Berry (I don't think this actually exists, either), and Guava.  Okay, so the names aren't that great, but the polishes are.  Shimmery glass-flecked goodness!

And a billion little Sally Girl minis!  These are so cute!

 These don't all have names.  L-R: Genie, unnamed dark shimmery purple, unnamed pin with gold shimmer, unnamed lavender creme, Satsuma, unnamed blue-green holo glitter, U Glow Girl (glow-in-the-dark?!), unnamed red with gold shimmer, and unnamed blue with pink and purple shimmer.  Lame.  But for such tiny bottles, there are some pretty nice colours.

Okay, and the rest of these are my Dollar Giant haul.  Anyone ever heard of Billie cosmetics anyway?

Random swatches from the past week and Valentine's Day colours

G'morning.  How is the world?  My bf took another day off work - hehe.  I like it when he's home :)

I'm so excited, you guys... I just placed my first Transdesign order!  w000000t....  I ordered a whole lot of Color Club polishes, as well as part of the China Glaze Up & Away collection, a couple Essies and Misa Love Bite.  Originally I was intending on ordering the entire Up & Away collection, but I ended up passing on Lemon Fizz (too much like OPI Banana Bandanna, which I own), Grape Pop (Another royal purple.  I'd rather the shimmery purple of China Glaze's Coconut Kiss, which I'm gonna pick up from SN&BS), High Hopes (another corally guava colour), Heli-yum (bright raspberry) and Sugar High (straight up bright medium pink).  I was also finally going to order the China Glaze specialty glitters I'd been eyeing since Christmas, but they'll have to wait, except for Atlantis, Solar Flare and Cloud Nine.  I also got the Van D'Go shade from the new Essie spring collection, because it was the one I wanted most from that collection,  And I had been waiting for Color Club's polishes to become available, so when I saw they finally were today I ordered the shades from the Rebel Debutante collection that interested me, as well as the PopTastic 7-pack, and a few randoms that I wanted.  I even ordered three polishes - Peppermint Twist, Psychedelic Scene, and Jackie Oh! - without seeing swatches or even examples of the colour!  I have no idea what colour Psychedelic scene is, I'm assuming Peppermint Twist is another mint green (I hope), and Jackie Oh! is a pink glitter of some kind, I think...?  I couldn't find swatches, or even mentions of the first two online.  They seem very new.  Oh well, it's like a Color Club grab bag  :)  I'm so excited.  The only thing I'm worried about is I hope I paid the correct shipping - I thought you had to calculate it yourself  for international orders, and the total shipping price they ended up giving me on Paypal was a lot less than they stated on their site... I asked to ship by medium flat rate box, which is $57 US, but they only ended up charging me $25... I don't want to say anything, but i also don't want to take any chances with my order...   Ah well.  Onto some swatchery.

Thumb to pinky: CND Gold Chrome, China Glaze Yell-O-Neil, CND Blueberry Whip (love it), China Glaze Heaven, and OPI Kyoto Pearl.  I like Blueberry Whip the best of these - it goes on like a dream, and the colour really reminds me of blueberry fro-yo.  I really don't know why I bought Heaven - it's nice, but I never wear sheers like this.  Kyoto Pearl is pretty much exactly what I expected it to be.  Yell-O-Neil is a nice sunny yellow, with bits of shimmer in it.  However, like all non-creme yellows (and most cremes, too), you really gotta layer it on to get it to look even remotely opaque.

Thumb: NYX Dancing Queen.  Index finger: Finger Paints Easel Come, Easel Go.  I dunno about you but these look identical to me.  ECEG was a tiny bit brighter and shinier on the nail, but you couldn't tell unless you stared at it really closely.  Bah.  I don't like owning dupes.

And now, the Valentine's Day Polish contenders:

Thumb to pinky: OPI And This Little Piggy..., China Glaze Rio, China Glaze Her Fabulousness, China Glaze Sexy Silhouette, China Glaze Red Essence.

Close-up of And This Little Piggy... Really pretty and sparkly.  A tad too sheer.  Maybe after four coats it'd be more noticeable.

Close-up of Red Essence.  I had the hardest time photographing this, as you can tell from my crap blurry pic.  My apologies and I hope you'll please excuse it.  This is almost a metallic warm red, with red and gold shimmer.  I'm kind of in awe of it.  I like bright fiery colours, and I like my reds to be anything but boring.

Close-up of Rio.  Very sheer, but really pretty, purple-blue-green duochrome shimmer.  Very similar to China Glaze Afterglow, but a touch deeper.  I would also like to do a comparison with Sally Hansen Fiery Skipper, since the reason I bought it was to replace that crappy drugstore polish.  I don't wear colours like this very often, but I will wear this one day- it's vewy pwitty :p  I bet this would absolutely glow against tanned skin  :)  This is only two coats - it's fabulous with four.

....and Sexy Silhouette.  Sorry for the blurriness, but you get the idea.  These certainly look similar, but are so not, with SS beeing deeper, more magenta and more shimmery.  It almost looks metallic as well.

Side-by-side comparison of Sexy Silhouette (ring) and Her Fabulousness (middle).  As you can see, similar but not.  I don't know which if these I'm going to choose for my V-Day polish... Sexy Silhouette to me just screams Valentine's, but I do also like And This Little Piggy...  I'm going to layer one of Nicole's or Claire's heart glitter polishes over it, ultimately, so I dunno... I will undoubtedly post about it, though.

Haul 01-22-10 from Sally Beauty Supply and NOTD

So, went to Sally Beauty Supply on Friday (drove my ass all the way out to - ugh - Surrey) and got a whole whack of stuff. I meant to post as soon as I got back but it was the weekend and, well, I had better things to do than update a blog that no one reads :( How does one get followers, anyhow? ;...(.........

Anyway (sniff, sniff, wipes nose), wasn't too impressed with the selection at Sally's. The brands they had that I was interested in were the China Glazes, Orly, Finger Paints, Savvy and Nina Ultra Pro, but the selection kind of sucked - a lot of the polishes on my want list weren't there. And everything was sort of overpriced. But anyway, here's what I got...

China Glaze in (top to bottom) Strawberry Fields, Watermelon Rind, Secret Peri-wink-le, Unplugged and Flying Dragon.
Orly in Opal Hope (I blame Scrangie for this one), Swizzle Stick, Plum Noir and Green With Envy.Nina Ultra Pro in Out Of The Blue, Tangerine Dream, Mermaid and Sweet Nothings.

Savvy Nail Laquer in Totally Teal and Deja Blue.And finally, Finger Paints in (top to bottom) Easel Come, Easel Go, Silver Sculpture, Lavender Highlight and Curator's Coral. I wanted ECEG because I don't own a really foil-like silver, and I'm not paying for Minx (I'd rather invest in some Konad first). I haven't worn it on its own yet, but it looked really really shiny. I like shiny things :p

Thumb to pinky: Orly Green With Envy. Orly Opal Hope, Nina UP Mermaid, Nina UP Sweet Nothings, Nina UP Tangerine Dream (much darker and more coral than in the bottle).Pinky to thumb: Sally Girl Mini nail color in Champagne Kisses (yeah, I totally forgot to take pics of these - I got five mini polishes at Sally's too, cuz, hello, they were 99 cents. I'll post one later), China Glaze Watermelon Rind (love), China Glaze Secret Peri-Wink-Le, China Glaze Flying Dragon (so disppointed in this one. The finish is matte as hell, and the red and blue glitter doesn't really show up, it just makes it appear kind of murky. I wouldn't even call it neon. It's not bright and glossy like I so wish it was. I didn't get the heads up on the matte-ness of the INK collection until after I'd ordered them. Ah well. A super-glossy patent top coat might salvage it...) and China Glaze Strawberry Fields (love love!)

Out of all of them, my faves so far are Watermelon Rind and Strawberry Fields. China Glaze rules with its colours, as usual. I did a manicure on my sis for the weekend in SF. I forgot to take a pic (yeah, I know, get a brain) but it looked amazing. Juicy pink laced with shimmery gold. Drool. I don't own anything remotely like this. I love any polish with a gold shimmer.

I also am loving the formula on the Finger Paints polishes. I wore two of them over the weekend and was impressed with them both all night. You want to hear all about it, don't you? Of course you do ;p Okay fine, I'll keep it brief. Friday night I went to a friend's house to play a game of poker. Looking back, I wish I owned Color Club's Poker collection, with all the poker-inspired names... I play poker all the time and would love a poker-inspired collection.... hmm, note to self for Transdesign order. Anyway, I was wearing a very neutral oatmeal-coloured Fair Isle cardigan and wanted something punchy to brighten it up, but on trend at the same time. Since I live in the 'burbs and we're about a year behind on all trends (with the exception of yours truly, naturally) I decided to go for good ol' purple. Lavender Highlight looked great on my nails all night, and I literally threw it on five minutes before we were out the door. Except for a small smudge on my right thumbnail (from putting on my jacket) it dried pretty fast and was opaque in two thin coats. I didn't bother photographing it though - my app job was that horrible. All over my cuticles that I had to just rim off with my thumbnail in the car. Terribad. But no one but me could tell.

Saturday we just had some friends over and watched a hockey game. I wanted to wear something bright again, and it was Saturday so I wanted a sexier colour (I don't know) so I reached for the Curator's Coral, since it would contrast nicely with the Canuck colours on my jersey (dark blue, green and white, for those unfortunate enough to be unfamiliar with greatness.) Great choice. Just what I wanted. It glowed pretty vibrantly on my nails all night. And since I had to apply it really really fast during first intermission (hence the shite application job, which you'll forgive cuz you love me), it dried fast enough for me to return to the party without anyone missing me (my boyfriend what know right away what I was doing :p) I know, I've become some sort of closet polish junky. I must moderate myself.

Hehe, and on that note, I have another massive freakin haul to show you! Cuz yesterday, I went to Secret Nail and Beauty Supply again! That and probably another random NOTD comin at you, if I can. I did have stuff I wanted to do today - call my mom, pay my phone bill, mail a letter, possibly drive all the way downtown to pick up my cheque - which I'll do tomorrow if I can - and I really really wanted to go to IKEA to get a helmer or even just Wal-Mart to get a plastic drawer storage unit... but I'd rather go to IKEA. Then I could see if they have wall racks for my polish, and I don't care if the bf objects :p Then again, he took the day off today just to take it easy (and to spend it with me, I assume), and since I do love him so, I'll probably put off IKEA to hang out with him if he doesn't want to go. Ah, l'amour.
